چکیده

In a continuously expanding mobile and wireless networking environment, Mobile IP is the preferred standard responsible for providing Internet connectivity to roaming mobile nodes. Under certain conditions of traffic, such as in Mobile IP networks supporting multimedia applications, overhead can cause delays at the mobility agents, i.e. foreign and home agents. Several multiple home agents protocol extensions have been proposed to avoid potential bottlenecks in single home agents configurations. Such multiple home agents schemes allow the use of dynamic load balancing policies to further improve the overall performance. Load balancing actions consist of data flows being redirected to vacant servers (home agents), rather than packets being dequeued and moved among servers. In our paper, we provide a comprehensive performance study on a proposed multiple home agents protocol. In order to improve the system performance, we propose a novel threshold-based load balancing policy. A discrete event computer simulator is developed to study the system performance with the proposed load balancing policy. We also introduce two new tuning parameters, the number of information queue slices and the retry latency, by which we control the load balancing benefit over an optimal static policy under various system configu-

Design and Analysis of Replicated Servers to Support IP-Host Mobility in Enterprise Networks

Mobility support in IP networks requires the use of servers to forward packets to mobile hosts and to maintain information pertaining to a mobile host’s location in the network. In one proposed protocol, the mobile-IP protocol, location and packet forwarding functions are provided by servers referred to as home agents. These home agents may become the bottleneck when there are a large number of...

Peer-to-Peer Based Architecture for Mobility Management in Wireless Networks

Mobility management is an important task in wireless networks. The Mobile IP protocol provides a basic solution to the mobility management. However, Mobile IP suffers from several problems. In this paper, we propose an enhancing version of Mobile IP by using the Peer-to-Peer (P2P) network technology. We organize home agents into P2P networks and use the Domain Name System (DNS) to provide the u...

Mobility Management Using P2P Techniques in Wireless Networks

Mobility management is an important task in wireless networks. The Mobile IP protocol provides a basic solution to mobility management in future all-IP wireless network environments. However, Mobile IP suffers from several problems such as triangular routing, long distant and frequent registration update. In this paper, we propose to use the Peer-to-Peer (P2P) network technology to improve Mobi...

An adaptive mobility anchor point selection scheme in Hierarchical Mobile IPv6 networks

In Hierarchical Mobile IPv6 (HMIPv6) networks, the mobility anchor point (MAP) is introduced to localize binding update messages destined to the home agent. In a large-scale wireless/mobile network, multiple MAPs may be deployed in order to provide more scalable and robust mobile services. In this case, it is important for a mobile node (MN) to select the most appropriate MAP among them. In thi...
